State of Mind
Through its audiovisual elements, State of Mind creates an intense, oppressive yet fascinating atmosphere. The dystopian Berlin, with its strikingly minimalist architecture, is portrayed convincingly and provides the ideal backdrop for the serious plot: State of Mind is set in Berlin in 2048. It tells the story of a dystopian society in which the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds, and between humans and machines, become blurred. The jury was particularly impressed by the game’s exploration of the transhumanist discourse, which is becoming increasingly relevant in the machine age. The game addresses highly topical and politically relevant issues currently under discussion, such as privacy, surveillance and the ethics of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the production utilises numerous motifs that illustrate the multi-layered aspects of the story and interweave perfectly with the narrative.
