Through the Darkest of Times

Through the Darkest of Times lets us experience the depths of Nazism firsthand and challenges us to confront it. On the day the Nazis seize power, a group of resistance fighters forms. From that moment on, their decisions consistently affect their own fate, that of the other group members, and that of the characters in short, striking side stories. This gives rise to interpersonal conflicts—the more diverse the group is and the riskier their approach to anti-fascist activism becomes. The game shines in particular due to the developers’ in-depth research. Each new playthrough reveals further fates and harrowing aspects of everyday life in Berlin, confronting players with the immediate consequences of their actions. In light of the shift to the right in Europe, this game is more relevant than ever and poses the highly topical question: How would I act?
