Footgun: Underground
Even simple ideas can catch on. In the wonderfully nonsensical Footgun: Underground, we ride through a deadly subway network with a soccer-playing hero to defeat new monsters at each stop. Logically, we do this by kicking one to three balls through the level. At first, we mainly have to dodge, aim well, and be careful not to die right away. But if we survive a few stops, the precarious aiming under time pressure gives way to chaos similar to pinball when multiball is triggered. With three different balls at once and numerous attack effects, we become the center of a destructive pixel art fireworks display.
The breathless mix of precise jumping and fast kicking captivates us. We feel invincible until we very quickly are no longer so. And then we start all over again. The simple but well-rounded idea is available in a prototype that already outshines many a game ready for sale. Give us more balls, more monsters, and we’ll buy a season ticket right away.
