The Longing

Treating playtime not as a limitation but as a resource to be used in abundance is an innovative approach—especially for a debut title. Nevertheless, The Longing manages to walk the fine line between artistic reflection and a minimalist, playful challenge. With charming dialogue, lovingly crafted graphics, and a quiet voice in an otherwise noisy world, it’s a tender invitation to take your time. Otherwise, the gray men will take over. And anyone who has read Michael Ende’s Momo knows what that means. The Longing deserves this award because this game is not only the most compelling body of work, but as a debut, it also promises valuable contributions to the gaming world from its creators.
