Witchtastic
The multiplayer game Witchtastic stands out in particular for its cooperative aspect. It is designed for 2–4 players in either local co-op or online co-op mode. Although the game’s concept draws heavily on the well-known cooking simulation game Overcooked and gives it a fresh new look, it adapts this familiar concept to make it suitable for families. The setting, featuring witches and magic, is drawn from the world of fairy tales and thus offers points of connection to children’s everyday lives.
It is worth noting that, even though the game involves time pressure, every family member can contribute skills appropriate to their own level. Specific tasks can be broken down into smaller parts, such as heating the witch’s cauldron. This encourages interaction and coordination amongst the players and sometimes results in creative chaos; however, it is the act of playing itself – rather than working towards a specific goal – that makes it enjoyable. The interface and the overall design concept are intuitive, understandable and easy to use for a wide range of age groups.
