Tropico 6

Since its release in March 2019, this tongue-in-cheek dictator simulation has seen five DLCs and numerous free updates. Alongside the ‘routine’ live updates – seasonal events such as Halloween, Christmas and Chinese New Year – the developers also showcase their creativity: new additions aren’t just extra content, but also introduce new mechanics and features to the game, whilst responding to the community’s wishes. The developer is also very active in community engagement. An active community of 21,000 members is maintained on Reddit. Winners of social media contests are immortalised in the game. The DLCs also tackle current topics – in a typically Tropico light-hearted manner – such as subsidy fraud in the EU or the delivery of goods and passenger transport via drones.

A highlight is the user-generated maps, of which there are already over 3,000 available on the Steam Workshop. The effort involved in supporting this community-generated content should not be underestimated and is another key factor in the nomination of Tropico 6.
