Squirrel&Bär

Squirrel & Bär is an educational game concept that allows children to learn foreign languages with the two characters, Squirrel and Bär. This nomination stands out in particular for its friendly visuals and its pedagogically well-thought-out concept, which is seamlessly integrated into the gameplay. In the game, Squirrel and Bär move to a new village where the residents speak a different language. This storyline naturally leads to the two heroes having to relearn how to communicate in their new, unfamiliar surroundings. This happens through numerous mini-games featuring the two main characters, which allow children to playfully learn the most important basic concepts of a foreign language directly in the appropriate context. In doing so, Squirrel & Bär refreshingly avoids gender stereotypes and truly presents itself as playful learning, rather than—as is so often the case—merely rewarding the completion of learning segments through game content.
