Pia Scholz (aka Shurjoka)

The DCP jury honours Shurjoka as Player of the Year for her ongoing commitment to combining gaming with political education. In her content, including on Twitch, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, she bridges the gap between content creation and activism for equality and human rights. With her strong moral compass and direct manner, she addresses difficult issues and has to endure a fair amount of backlash in the process. Most recently, she has been a vocal advocate for the rights of transgender people. With the recently founded project and Discord server #Wir4Queer, she uses her reach to connect content creators, affected individuals, activists and other points of contact and to initiate new projects. She is one of the most successful variety streamers in Germany and focuses in particular on strategy and indie games.
