For many people, digital games are part of everyday life. Nevertheless, there are often barriers and obstacles that prevent players with disabilities from taking part. In her blog, Melanie Eilert, also known as melly_maeh, speaks candidly about her experiences as a gamer and explores the barriers and accessibility issues in digital games. She also addresses the representation of people with disabilities in computer and video games. Melanie Eilert is driving the removal and technology-assisted overcoming of existing barriers in digital games by testing and evaluating assistive technologies. In doing so, she delivers real added value for those affected. To champion the inclusion of gamers, she utilises a wide range of appropriate communication channels, thereby raising awareness of game accessibility beyond the boundaries of the gaming industry.
