KING Art
The Bremen-based company KING Art has been in business for over 20 years. Founded by school friends Jan Theysen and Marc König, the studio initially developed browser games, then point-and-click adventures (The Book of Unwritten Tales), as well as strategy and role-playing games (The Dwarves); its portfolio now includes over 50 titles. KING Art is one of the crowdfunding pioneers in the German gaming industry. Since 2013, they have successfully raised funds for four titles on Kickstarter. For their latest game, Iron Harvest, they set a record: Within 30 days, backers donated nearly $1.5 million. The RTS title is the most ambitious and expensive project in the company’s history, and it has paid off: Iron Harvest impresses with its audiovisuals, gameplay, and storytelling, and it is an international success. At the 2020 German Developer Awards, it was honored as Best German Game, among other accolades, and KING Art received the award for Best Studio. KING Art is actively involved in and well-connected within the German games industry; on its YouTube channel DevPlay, the studio regularly publishes talks on various gaming and developer topics in collaboration with four other major studios. Currently, 70 employees and just as many external contractors at KING Art are working simultaneously on an average of three different projects.
