Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

The wonderful thing about video games is that they allow you to create worlds that have absolutely nothing in common with our reality and spring entirely from the imagination. Nintendo’s puzzle game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker presents players with a host of small, colourful worlds brimming with colour and cheer. With his limited abilities, the comical mushroom-headed Toad conquers a universe straight out of a box of crayons: he plucks flowers from the meadow and discovers gold coins. He smashes through walls and finds keys. But how does he master the platforms, and how does he rearrange entire building structures in his quest to find a path to the next checkpoint? Finding the right solutions is easy: the 70 levels are characterised by a cheerful and weightless style and a gameplay structure that is as imaginative as it is challenging. The jury would like to highlight the clever use of touchscreen and motion controls to tackle puzzles and tests of dexterity.
