Meander Book

Meander Book is an unusual prototype, as it is not a game in the traditional sense, but rather an interactive adventure book. It centres on Wilhelm, Frieda and Betty – three siblings who, following a flood, set off together to look for the hen Berta – and end up in a mysterious forest. By swiping, readers move through the illustrated pages, exploring the mysterious world and its narrative. Selected objects, such as boots in a puddle for splashing about, are interactive in keeping with the story and invite readers to try them out. And the typography is not neglected either – the text is appealing and designed with the target audience in mind. Furthermore, at certain points in the story, readers can choose between two paths, allowing them to make decisions as they go along. This thoroughly successful blend of children’s book and game, featuring the author’s stylish illustrations, worked so well as a prototype that the expert jury would love to see more of the book and its characters.
