Sonority
In Sonority, players take on the role of young Esther, who has set out to unravel the secrets of music. Armed with her pan flute, she makes her way through the mysterious rock garden and learns new notes along the way.
Sonority won over the jury with its innovative gameplay mechanics, which set it apart from other, typically rhythm-based music games. Neither extraordinary dexterity, lightning-fast reflexes, nor perfect pitch are required to
master Sonority; instead, players must solve puzzles and internalize the musical scale to survive in the magical game world.
The game design particularly impressed the expert jury with the interplay between the game environment and basic music theory: If I play the scale in ascending order, obstacles move upward; if I skip individual notes, I
can find the right synergies. The game requires no prior musical knowledge; players are introduced to the basics of melody and can use them to explore a mysterious, music-infused fantasy world.
