FwESI Einsatztaktik für Gruppenführer

The game FwESI Einsatztaktik für Gruppenführer places users in a VR environment where they experience specific firefighting scenarios. Virtual reality technology is effectively used here to immerse trainees in realistic scenarios, combined with role-playing exercises with the training instructor. Several different operational scenarios are available to choose from. New operational scenarios for indoor and outdoor areas can also be created using an editor. Video game technology is thus effectively integrated with traditional training concepts in a training area of high relevance to society as a whole. The combination of VR and simultaneous guidance from an instructor is convincingly implemented. A large portion of the more than one million firefighters serving in Germany are volunteers. These emergency responders are required to undergo continuing education in all cases. Using VR technology, FwESI also allows for the practical testing of scenarios that are unlikely to occur frequently in the day-to-day reality of a volunteer or professional fire department but that must be trained for urgently.
