Settle and Battle
Settle and Battle was developed by 21-year-old game art student Paul Noack (Attic Games Studio) and is a take on classic RTS strategy games in the style of Age of Empires, The Settlers and Warcraft. Players must use buildings to build up an economy, which can then be used to create armies to lead into battle against their opponents. No new gameplay concepts have been introduced in Settle and Battle, which was the only slight drawback we noticed. The controls are clearly designed for mobile devices; they are intuitive and the game is very easy to play, which is no mean feat for RTS games on mobile devices. The visual presentation and overall feel are cohesive, and the text has been voice-recorded. As a new player, you’re quickly introduced to the game via a well-designed tutorial and learn the key basics, which are clearly explained through voice-over and animations. There are campaigns featuring different factions, and you can play free matches against computer opponents. Overall, Settle and Battle is a remarkable achievement for a one-man production, which we consider worthy of an award.
