Get Together: A Coop Adventure
“Cross-platform offline co-op multiplayer” – what at first sounds like a random string of words soon turns out to be a surprisingly innovative and well-rounded package that offers more than just gaming fun. Due to the technological separation (each player only sees half of the puzzles), the only way to progress in Get Together is through communication. Right from the very first puzzles, it becomes clear that this sounds much easier than it is, and that you really have to coordinate with each other effectively.
This brings us to the most important point of our nomination: in recent years, due to the Covid pandemic and the accompanying restrictions, we have gained a whole new awareness of communication: what does physical separation mean for communication? How do working from home and video calls work? What works for some, and what works for others? – Get Together places players in a new situation, encouraging them to engage even more deeply with communication and cooperation.
As the puzzles become more complex, the demands on communication also increase; however, thanks to the non-competitive gameplay, this never becomes frustrating. Players learn to understand one another, to reach out to each other and to help one another. By the end of the game, players have not only learnt a great deal about communication, but also a thing or two about themselves and their fellow player.
