At first glance, Glitchskier is a simple shoot ’em up—cleanly and skillfully executed—that’s immediately fun to play without needing much explanation. However, Glitchskier stands out from other games in this genre primarily because of its graphics and sound. From the start screen to the menu navigation to the abstract design of the enemies, the result is a cohesive overall composition. The design pays homage to the 1980s, but rather than simply imitating historical design elements—as is so often the case—it creates a look all its own through its use of
glitches, distorted visuals, and the simulated analog flicker of a CRT screen.
The game’s sound is perfectly tailored to the graphics: Glitchskier sounds like you’re watching an ’80s TV show where a teenager is sitting in the living room playing video games.
