EVERSPACE 2: Wrath of the Ancients
A DLC faces a special challenge: it must sound familiar while opening up new spaces.
Wrath of the Ancients impressively achieves this balancing act and expands the EVERSPACE 2 sound cosmos with a newly accentuated compositional orientation. The introduction of a new alien faction is clearly marked musically. The score stands out audibly from the electronic, atmospheric beats of the base game: monumental soundscapes, striking textures, and a cinematic dimension reminiscent of major science fiction productions establish a distinct identity. The music unfolds a vastness and gravitas that impressively underscore the setting and open world of this action-packed space shooter.
The audio team has also done a clean job in terms of dramaturgy. The voice acting is professionally implemented in both English and German and clearly anchors the story in the game world. In the cut scenes, the score noticeably carries the development of the plot: the music intensifies emotional moments and gives them weight – sometimes even more so than the images alone can.
The technical quality is particularly evident in the gameplay details: weapon and effect sounds are clearly differentiated and spatially well-located, even at high game speeds. The adaptive sound system contributes significantly to the flow by maintaining clarity and structure even at high stimulus density and providing a thrilling musical backdrop for every phase of a space battle.
Wrath of the Ancients doesn’t just use audio as accompaniment—it shapes the atmosphere, gameplay flow, and identity in equal measure, both dramaturgically and technically.
